Women is an inclusive term that encompasses all people whose identity includes women. This includes, but is not limited to, those who are lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, non-binary and trans feminine.
Being a LGBTQ+ Woman in the wider LGBTQ+ community
Since the label Woman encompasses a huge variety of people, most people who are in this category also identify within another intersection within the LGBTQ+ community.
LGBTQ+ Women often face hostility from within the LGBTQ+ community itself. An example of this are TERFs (Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists), who accuse trans women of not being “real women”. These narratives are ill-informed, exclusionary and fundamentally harmful. Trans women are women, all trans identities are valid and trans people do not pose a threat to any other LGBTQ+ identity. As a Society, we welcome all trans people. Moreover, misogyny is also present within the LGBTQ+ community as many LGBTQ+ spaces are dominated by LGBTQ+ men.
