Gender dysphoria describes the feelings of distress or discomfort with a person’s own gender. This is often because the person experiences a disconnection with the gender they were assigned, which can negatively impact a person’s mental health. Under this definition, body dysphoria is the disconnection with one’s own body, whereas social dysphoria is the discomfort that comes with gendered language and actions being used in reference to that individual.
