figuring things out

So, you might not identify with the gender you were assigned at birth. That’s ok! Welcome to your journey of gender discovery and expression.

First off, we should say: don’t panic. Things will become a bit clearer with time.
Secondly, here are some fabulous resources that a lot of trans and non-binary people have used when coming to terms with their gender identity to explore new words, ideas and ask questions to the online community. Your trans reps are also here to talk, whether you’re questioning or unsure - use the emails on the committee subpage. We hope there’s something here for everyone!

Information:
  • Genderqueer Terminology
  • The Trevor Project - They have a wide range of resources such as coming out, and navigating religion and gender!
  • Resources for Young Trans People
  • Gender advice topics from Everyone is Gay - Ignore the somewhat dubious title, the resources are good!
  • Resources for Parents of Trans People
  • Coming out as Trans as a Young Person
  • FTM Resource Guide

Forums:
  • Empty Closets
  • Susan’s Place
  • Angels
  • The Asexual Visibility and Education Network (AVEN)
  • Transgender Zone

Miscellaneous:
  • Beyond the Binary, a magazine for UK non-binary people.
  • Thoughts from a trans person of colour, Sabah Choudrey.

Counselling:
Counselling can provide you with the space and opportunity to talk in confidence about your gender identity and the implications of transition for your life. In the University, counselling is available through the University Counselling Service. GPs can also refer you to counsellors. Privately, Pink Therapy has counsellors who are specially trained in working with the LGBTQ+ community.
At the top right of every page on this website (Desktop Site only), you will find a 'Quick Escape' button. Clicking on that button will automatically take you to the BBC Weather homepage. We chose that site because weather might be less suspicious than taking you to a blank Google screen!
